We are a multi-disciplinary firm, with a staff comprised of architects and industrial, theatrical and interior designers. This wide range of skills and experience provides a unique design capability that is supported by thoughtful technical analysis and attention to detail.
We approach our work as a collaborative effort, working within our clients' design, scheduling, and financial goals. Beginning in the planning phase, Lightsource can define appropriate lighting criteria by identifying issues, establishing methods, and developing budgets and cost controls.
In design, we look for images in light that best expresses the character and style of the project. Texture, contrast, colour, integrated detail, ornament, optics, and natural light make up our palette. By selectively applying these tools, and studying the project from many perspectives, distinctive lighting solutions can be achieved.
Our Scope of Design Services begin at the Concept Design Stage, where initial lighting concepts are explored with the members of the Design Team and presented to the Client, highlighting the unique features and character of the structure and space, and continue through Design Development, where the approved lighting concepts are developed into constructible designs. Documentation, including detailed drawings, control systems, and specifications are prepared in the Documentation and Tender Stages. During Construction, we review submissions, attend to site inspections to monitor the progress of the installations, and carry out full Testing and Commissioning, including adjustment of light fittings and control systems the completion of the Project.
OUR DESIGNERS
Lawrence D. Lee
Director of Design
A native of Seattle, Washington, USA, Lawrence received his Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Washington State University in 1984. His career has encompassed working for major lighting design firms in New York, San Francisco and Seattle, prior to establishing Lightsource's offices in Hong Kong in 1992. As Design Director, his works have covered a wide spectrum o projects types, including interior and exterior design for hospitality, commercial, corporate offices, cultural, residential and health care facilities. Mr. Lee has been the recipient of of numerous awards, from IES, LEED and Green Building and Energy Efficiency.
Ronald Chan
Senior Associate
Ronald received his degree in Architectiure from the University of Technology, Sydney, in 2000. He has worked in several design disciplines, including interior design, architecture as well as fitting out contractors. Ronald started his career at Lightsource in 2004, where he has worked his way up to Associate in 2014. He has worked on several project types, including hospitality, exterior facade, landscape, corporate interiors, retail, and institutional.
Queenie Cheung
Senior Associate
Queenie received her Bachelor of Building Services Engineering Degree from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2002. Ms. Cheung has had a wide ranging career in lighting, having worked worked for landscape, engineering and retail firms. Since joining Lightsource, she has been instrumental in overseeing many of our PRC projects. Her experience spans a wide variety, including retail, hospitality, and commercial developments. She received her Master of Lighting from Queensland University of Technology in 2008.
April Castaneda
Associate
April received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. During her studies, she developed a keen interest in lighting design and worked with architectural and lighting design firms in Manila, especially in developing her skills in lighting calculation softwares and BIM. April joined Lightsource in 2015 and is currently an Associate with the firm, working on a variety of project types, including hospitality, commercial, public assembly, exterior facade and landscape. She has been a leading force on our projects in SE Asia, where she has been involved in all project phases, including concept design, documentation, and construction administration, up through project close-out and Testing and Commissioning.
Jannine Pasiola
Associate
Jannine received her Bachelor in Architecture from the Far Eastern University, Manila, Philippines in 2013. She also passed the Philippines Architectural license exam in 2015. She has worked at several architecrtural design firms in Hong Kong and the Philippines, gaining knowledge in all aspects of design. Ms. Pasiola joined Lightsource in 2016, as a Lighting Designer. Jannine has worked on a wide variety of projects, including hospitality, retail, residential, exterior facade and landscape design, where she has been involved in all phases of the project, from Concept Design through Testing and Commissioning. Jannine has also received her Certificate in Landscape Design, from Hong Kong University Space in 2019
